Aled's November appearances

A bit of a quieter month! - unless some Songs of Praise start appearing, or other things we don't yet know about! Laughing

Sunday 4th
* Good Morning Sunday - BBC radio 2: 7.00 – 9.00 Aled welcomes motorbiking TV cook Clarissa Dickson Wright, who talks about the highs and lows of her life. And as part of the Living with Aids campaign Aled will be joined by Dr Patrick Dixon, founder of the Aids charity ACET (Aids Care Education and Training)
* Aled Jones - Radio Wales: 10.00 – 11.00. Aled is in conversation with singer Lorna Luft.
* The Choir : BBC radio 3:6.30 – 8.00 In the year of the 150th anniversary of Sir Edward Elgar's birth, Aled Jones explores the choral legacy of this great English composer. The programme also hears the final instalment of performances from Let The Peoples Sing, a competition for amateur choirs from all over Europe, and the usual mix of great choral performances.
* Young Chorister of the Year – Radio 2. 8.00. – 9.00 Aled hosts the Grand Final of the BBC Radio 2 Young Choristers Of The Year 2007 from St Paul's Cathedral in London, recorded on Saturday 27 October.
Celebrated composer John Rutter chairs a panel of judges, including HRH The Duchess of Kent, searching for two winners from the eight successful finalists representing the very best of church choral singing across the UK. Four boys and four girls have been successful in getting through two preliminary rounds to compete for the coveted title of BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister Of The Year. Each finalist performs a sacred song and a hymn in front of a live audience at St Paul's Cathedral.
Blake are the special guests for the evening. They are a group who aim to bridge the gap between classical and pop music and are familiar with the chorister tradition, having been choristers themselves.
There is a winner in both categories and each receives a trophy and has the chance to appear on BBC Radio 2's Good Morning Sunday, Sunday Half Hour and BBC Radio 4's Daily Service programmes. In addition, they have the opportunity to appear on BBC One's Songs Of Praise.
Friday 8th: BBC radio2 7.30 – 9.15: Friday Night is Music Night – live from the Mermaid. Guests - Jade Gallagher and Blake

Sunday 11th
* Good Morning Sunday - BBC radio 2: 7.00 – 9.00 Soldier Soldier star Robson Green joins Aled to mark Remembrance Sunday and previews the abridging of Michael Morpurgo's award-winning book, Private Peaceful, which he narrates for BBC Radio 2 from Friday 16 November. Private Peaceful is a tale of brotherly love set during the horrors of the First World War.
In the last few weeks, official pardons have finally been placed in folders housed at the National Archives of 306 executed First World War soldiers who were court martialled for cowardice or desertion. This follows the historic move this time last year and years of campaigning by families as well as the Shot At Dawn Campaign, who argued that the soldiers were victims of miscarriages of justice.
Aled is also joined by Janet Booth, whose grandfather, Harry Farr, was one of those pardoned. Remembrance 2007 will have added significance for her family as Farr's name has this year been added to the War memorial in Wealdstone, Middlesex. Despite this move, however, there is still frustration that victims are being denied their medals – the Victory Medal, the 1914-18 War Medal and the General Service Medal.
* Aled Jones - Radio Wales: 10.00 – 11.00. Aled is in conversation with special guest Simon Weston
* The Choir BBC - radio 3 – 6.30 – 8.00. Aled presents A World Requiem by John Foulds, its first performance since 1926, in a spectacular live broadcast from London's Royal Albert Hall.
This epic and moving memorial to the War dead of all nations was a regular feature of the British Legion Armistice Day celebrations during the Twenties, and its last performance involved a total of 1,250 musicians.
Tonight's Armistice Day resurrection by the BBC, a glittering roster of soloists and the combined power of four choirs, focuses renewed attention upon a neglected British composer whom conductor Sakari Oramo has dubbed "a genius".
The BBC Symphony Orchestra is joined by an impressive line-up of performers: soloists include Catherine Wyn-Rogers, Gerald Finley and Stuart Skelton, and the BBC Symphony Chorus is joined by the Crouch End Festival Chorus, Philharmonia Chorus and Trinity Boys' Choir, conducted by Leon Botstein.
Tuesday 13th Aled in concert – Chester Cathedral 19.00 – 22.00

Sunday 18th
* Good Morning Sunday – BBC radio 2 – 7.00 – 9.00 Aled welcomes legendary folk singer Linda Thompson. Also, to mark the start of Islam Awareness week, Aled talks to Canadian singer-songwriter Dawud Wharnsby, who converted to Islam when he was in his 20s.
* Aled Jones - Radio Wales: 10.00 – 11.00. Aled is in conversation with writer, broadcaster, film director, historian and ex-Monty Python star Terry Jones.
* The Choir BBC - radio 3 – 6.30 – 8.00 Aled, with the help of the BBC Singers, explores that most varied of German musical forms: the part song, in this week's edition of The Choir.
As any lover of Wagner's Die Meistersinger will know, there's nothing that 19th-century Germans liked more than a good sing-along. Tonight, listeners hear music for musical societies, singing exams, competitions and, of course, the odd drinking session from the likes of Brahms, Mendelssohn and Schumann – all specially recorded for the programme by the BBC's own choral forces.
Technology journalist Jono Buchanans also returns to give an update on his mission to compose music for a computerised choir which he hopes is indistinguishable from the real thing
Friday 23rd: Madam Tussauds 7.00. – 11.00. Launch of Music for All - a charity of which Aled is Patron – and fund-raising event. Tickets £150 – see http://www.mi-pro.co.uk/news/29205/Last-call-for-Music-for-All

Sunday 25th
* Good Morning Sunday – BBC radio 2 – 7.00 – 9.00 Aled's main guest is Premiership footballer Linvoy Primus. He talks about his autobiography Transformed, which tells how his life and career were transformed in 2001 when he became a born-again Christian.
* Aled Jones - Radio Wales: 10.00 – 11.00. Aled shares music and conversation with Doctor Jonathan Miller
* The Choir BBC - radio 3 – 6.30 – 8.00 Aled celebrates the anniversaries of two 20th century composers. Since his death in 1957, Sibelius's international reputation has rested largely on his symphonies and orchestral music. However, his musical legacy also includes a substantial body of choral music and we hear a selection of some of these lesser known, but equally appealing, pieces. Plus to mark the centenary of French composer and organist Jean Langlais's birth there's a chance to hear his colourful Missa Salve Regina, written for the unusual forces of male voice chorus, unison voices, two organs and an octet of brass instruments.
Friday 30th November: Friday Night is Music Night BBC radio 2 7.30 – 9.15: From London’s Mermaid, Aled presents the BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Roderick Dunk, with special guests: Annette Wardell (soprano), Jonathan Gunthrope (baritone), euphonium player David Childs, and jazz singer/songwriter Joe Stilgoe. (Rpt - this concert was first broadcast in July).
